Inaugural One Day Event!

August 17, 2026

ABOUT THE LETTING GO PROJECT

The Letting Go Project is a community initiative designed to help individuals and families release furniture, household items, and belongings they no longer need while directly helping neighbors in our community. Every day, we meet people who feel overwhelmed by excess possessions, downsizing decisions, life transitions, and uncertainty about where donations should go. This project creates an easy, meaningful way to let go with purpose.

The Letting Go Project is easy to participate in. Simply sign up as a donor or volunteer, provide your information, and we’ll be in touch as the event gets closer with additional details. If you are donating furniture, your items will be picked up on August 17, 2026. We will do our best to communicate an estimated pickup time in advance. If you sign up to volunteer, you’ll help collect furniture donations from homes throughout the community. Volunteers will work alongside our team to make the day a success while helping furnish homes for local families in need. Whether you’re giving furniture a second life or lending a helping hand, your participation makes a meaningful impact on families in our community.

The Letting Go Project Goals:

  • PROVIDE FURNITURE AND HOUSEHOLD ESSENTIALS TO INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES IN NEED
  • SUPPORT PEOPLE NAVIGATING LIFE TRANSITIONS SUCH AS DOWNSIZING, MOVING, OR ESTATE CLEANOUTS
  • REDUCE WASTE BY KEEPING USABLE ITEMS OUT OF LOCAL LANDFILLS
  • STRENGTHEN COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS THROUGH PURPOSEFUL GIVING
  • TURN EXCESS POSSESSIONS INTO MEANINGFUL RESOURCES FOR OTHERS

About The Furniture Mission

Furniture Mission of South Dakota is a faith-based nonprofit serving Sioux Falls and surrounding communities since 2003.

We demonstrate the love of Christ by providing gently used furniture and household items, free of charge, to individuals and families in need. Through donations from community members, businesses, and sponsors, we furnish approximately 130 to 150 households each month, helping transform empty living spaces into safe, comfortable homes

Community Involvement

The Letting Go Project is powered by community members who believe that every item has value and every act of generosity can make a difference. Whether you’re donating furniture, volunteering your time, or helping spread the word, you play a vital role in creating homes filled with comfort, dignity, and hope.
