WILL YOU HELP US?

The height of summer is finally here, and this is the season of new beginnings. Everything is fresh, vibrant, and alive. Since the start of the year, the Furniture Mission has been busy helping more than 2,200 people move into their new homes by providing furniture and household items. As you contemplate where you’d like to donate this year, we want to share with you how your contribution to the Furniture Mission changes lives.

The Furniture Mission has created a new program called ‘Welcome Home Baskets’. A new laundry basket, fully stocked with all your typical move-in needs, is given to families transitioning from homelessness to home. Toiletries, a shower curtain, cleaning supplies, and other necessities are included in each basket. Families are often unable to afford these items when they move into a new apartment or home, and SNAP benefits (also known as “Food Stamps”) can’t be used to purchase these items.

Recently a business group donated 40 ‘Welcome Home Baskets’. Gods timing is always amazing. While one of the volunteers was out purchasing the supplies the cashier asked, “What are you doing with all of these items?” The volunteer was eager to explain what she was doing, “The company that I work for is supporting the Furniture Mission by making ‘Welcome Home Baskets’.” The cashier looked back at her and her eyes welled up with tears. She said, “I was just given furniture from the Furniture Mission two weeks ago and I received one of those baskets.  I am forever grateful to the Furniture Mission for helping me get settled in my new place.” In that moment, both women witnessed God’s work in motion.

As a staff member of the Furniture Mission, I know that God is always working, even when I can’t see it. He never stops working because He is a promise keeper and a light in the darkness for every person who walks through our doors. It is amazing to see the response from volunteers when they witness for themselves God’s work come to life. It is truly life changing.  This is just one of the many humbling and unforgettable stories that are born through the work of the Furniture Mission.

As the summer winds down, we need your help to continue to create new beginnings in the lives we touch.  Will you sponsor a family to receive a household of furniture, a ‘Welcome Home Basket’, and a Bible?  Please consider contributing in total or monthly: $500.  Every dollar counts.  If you would be interested in being trained in pick-ups and deliveries, office work, or client assistance, or ‘Welcome Home Baskets’, we welcome your calls.
